Imagine being the dude from Tame Impala and then getting one of your main influences covering one of your songs

the point of a cover is to put your own spin on it. lips definitely succeeded.

Awesome version of this song, they really nailed it.   Too bad I can't find this version on i-tunes etc.

All the guys who mock them probably they don't know that even Tame Impala itself would love to watch their gigs.

The haters just haven't caught the flavor, but i can't blame their tongues, it's just their minds. This is obv. a minimalist kind of cover, and I like it. Watched this video a year ago and it's been in the back of my mind as an influence ever since

I don't understand why it's the solo that anyone's bitching about. The Lips went through their big, orgasmic climaxes stage with the Soft Bulletin. Lately their model (like on The Terror) has been one of building tension without allowing release. The anticlimactic solo feeds that perfectly. This is by definition a Tame Impala song in the (current) style of The Flaming Lips.

If you want to bitch about something, bitch about Wayne's vocals on this track. Really sub par.

I talked to Wayne and Kliph after their show in Boston with Tame Impala and they said they kept doing this song over and over again because they couldn't quite get it right. By the end, they were tired of it so I guess that's why it's not as great as it could be.

That's the best way to start any song.

Can't wait to listen to their Runway, Houses, City, Clouds version.

they don't ruin it, they just play it so straight that it might as well be tame impala. was hoping for some juicy classic lips but hey at least they're rocking out

My guess is that when very young, Kevin Parker listened to the lips. Maybe not a lot, but enough for Kevin to "get it, " and mark out his future territory of over-compressed, inventive weirdness.
