Does My Baby Have Autism? | Autism in Babies and What to Do

Dr. Mary Barbera discusses autism in babies, and how to tell if a baby has autism. We’ll also talk a little about autism in siblings and the risks involved.

A question I get asked frequently is “does my baby have autism?” Many times, the answer isn’t so simple, especially since babies are sometimes delayed in development, but they don’t necessarily have autism. Another child with autism could have similar skills, but one might catch up, while another may regress even further. In today’s video blog, I’ll be covering how tell if a baby has autism and what signs to look out for. While autism symptoms in babies can vary, parents should follow the CDC milestones to best identify when and where delays are present.

I’ll also provide some strategies on what to do about autism, if you feel your child may have autism or is showing many of the signs. Parents should also be aware of the risks of having a second or third baby. Can a second child get autism? The answer is maybe, there is a good chance it can and a good chance it can’t. I will discuss this rate a little bit in this week’s video too, so you don’t want to miss it!

Hi um, I'm not exactly a parent but im concerned about my baby sister. I have never met an autistic person before so I'm not sure. My baby sister turned 4 yrs old just recently and she still cant say a sentence.. It's concerning but me and my fam always brushed it off by saying shes just a slow-learner. Her behaviour includes spinning without feeling dizzy, lining up her toys and our condiments on the table, huuuggeee tantrums over the smallest things, sleeping in the morning and being awake the whole night! I'm not really knowledgable about autism, so I'm hoping someone can help me and my baby sister..

My 11 month old is not gesturing, she doesn't mimic speech or attempt to say words. She hand flaps, head burrows, avoids eye contact, doesn't respond to her name and never has. Physically she seems to be developing normally, even a little ahead, but I'm planning to take my concerns to her pediatrician at her 12 month appointment, because I'm becoming more aware of the signs and I want to get her the support she needs as soon as I possibly can.

My 10 month daughter doesn’t response by her name. She doesn’t make eye contact when she play and eat but another time she does that. During eating time and when i lay her in to bed that time she usually flip her hand but other time she doesn’t do that.
And if i put something on her head than she can understand that I'm playing with her and than she instantly look at me and smile .

What do you think what is it?

Hello I have a 6 months old baby girl. I noticed that she is very hyper active, squirming. She doesn’t look the people instead she love to looks at the clouds, leaves or print in the shirt. But she giggles when I play peek a boo with her. She doesnt want be hold by others, she didn’t babble she just makes weird sound but not babbles. She did not respond sometimes in her name. She loves to roll over and then suddenly gets bang her head and gets irritated sometimes. She do hand twisting, and scratching her fingernails in n the walls. Shes not a good sleeper. She cant sleep on her own she really loves to look small things and tilt her head for it. She is very fussy sometimes during feeding time. She puts everything in her mouth what ever she is holding. She stiffen her legs and spread her arms while lying down or when im holding her sometimes. I am so worried about her. I hope you can reply my comment. When I call her she tend to look at me for a second then look away again. She doesnt focus on people faces or when somebody talking to her. Thank you and God bless

Hello how are you? I've noticed my 6 month old baby girl likes to have her arms up in her high chair while feeding, in her jumpee and her walker . She grabs things but she also sleeps with her arms up as well. She also like to when sitting on our knee flap her arms and move her legs like shes flying. Are these odd behaviours ? My son and daughter never did these behaviours
