Doing research for my upcoming Ritchey Swiss Cross build, the canti version, led me to Paul Components, a top of the line manufacturer of 7 styles of canti brakes. I had a lot to learn; all new stuff for me. I’ve only ever ridden road bikes, but I wanted something I could use on and off road. The Swiss Cross is it. So, some new stuff to learn is in my future.

Check out this explanation of some of my findings, thoughts and what ultimately caused me to rethink my first canti brake choice.

I had judder from using koolstop salmon which grabbed too much. Fixed when I used TRP pads and shoes, special shoes with an internal hex that changes the pad angle to get the proper toe in angle. For modern cantis that need shoes, those TRP shoes are worth getting, regardless of what pads you use
