The absolute best review I've seen on Youtube. Woody, you are fantastic. Thank you!

Hi Woody!

I really appreciate you taking the time to do this wrap-up on the Yamaha DGX-670, thank you!

I have said it before and I will say it again – you look cool wearing that hat!! Also, you demonstrate these things and play with so much joy that you make me smile every time. There’s just something about you and your videos that make me feel good and I genuinely look forward to whatever you are going to do next.

Regarding the DGX-670, you conveyed the message beautifully – there are good reasons to buy a top-shelf arranger but you will be paying for it and the -670 will get you almost there at a fraction of the price. Obviously, you won’t get all the bells and whistles of those top instruments but you will be getting very solid basics and it will surprise you in more ways than one. For me, the compelling factor is the GHS action which, by the way, seems to be phased out by Yamaha as the new P-series digital pianos seem to be using a more compact GHC (Graded Hammer Compact) action and I don’t think it’s as good, but also, I really didn’t know about the ‘piano’ button that dedicates all of the instrument’s hardware to producing the highest-quality piano sound possible, all with sympathetic resonance!! Very exciting if you ask me!!

On top of all of that, it has a USB audio interface built in (!), something that I was disappointed to learn that the newest Yamaha PSR-SX range doesn’t have (and was certain it was going to).

So, apart from limited connectivity, the DGX-670 seems to be the ideal digital piano for the home, with expanded arranger capability to keep you playing for hours and hours. Wonderful!

Regarding the harshness you hear with cymbals, if the instrument has a master EQ, try turning down the 6-10 kHz region and see if that makes a difference. Given the price, the tweeters are probably cone-type as opposed to dome-type typical for more expensive stuff, and these can be sometimes a little brittle-sounding. Still, I doubt it’s audible in the ‘piano’ mode and from what I’ve gathered from your videos, the -670 has far better speakers than similarly priced digital pianos.

Cheers mate!!

Hello from Denmark, I have played keyboards for over 20 years as a musican, the last 11 years with an Yamaha Tyros 4 and the last 2 years together with a Korg pa 1000. I dropped my Korg and got a Dgx 670 because it have 88 weighted keys, , for dinner music I only needed this keyboard alone. And VERRY IMPORTANT, connecting to a PA system using the headphone out it is the same as a normal left and right OUT, go to the MENU and use the
external amplifier out and the head phone out is charging to normal L and R out it is a little bit tricky, but I think if they have the normal L and R out yamaha will not sell so many off their other more expensive electric pianos. The dgx 670 is the cheapest keyboard I have used in my stage setup and all what you are saying in this fine video is ABSOLUTE RIGHT if you are pianist you have to try it and save a lot off money.

Yes, indeed, best piano yet since the beginning of digital pianos. I bought the first digital piano back in the 1980s, owned dozens of Dpianos since in every module and full keyboard versions too, but none were what I considered an instrument, none sounded good, the note decay is always too fast, and the soft pedal and half sustain were never acoustic like. Then finally comes the DGX-670 and it is fantastic, has the most even voiced piano that can be voiced in any way the user desires to build the perfect sounding piano for everyone. The 3 pedal system is a must buy with the DGX-670 with the most perfect soft pedal and wonderful sustain with half pedaling.

The action is fine with me even thought I also own the Roland RD-2000 and the Kurtzweil PC4, all different actions but that is what I need to keep the skill of adapting to stage acoustic pianos. I am happy with this Yamaha, I only bought for the piano, but the arranger and all the other sounds is just an added bonus. Now I can practice piano at home with headphones at any time and get stellar sound, playability, expression, and not disturb the neighbors. The digital piano has arrived and is now an instrument, but only if you buy this piano.

U can set the intro type without changing the style and resave it. Press direct access + intro button. Then, goto the settings2 tab. In that tab u can set which variation that u need 1, 2 or 3 under the "Intro/Ending Set". Once u change this, its applicable to all of styles.

My Mother had the previous model DGX 650, which had a black and white screen, but very similar, .
It has a good sound and is loud enough to fill a living room, but too weak for a party with more than 6 people.
The DGX 670 has a nice color screen, somewhat small still, but big enough to read.
It is not comparable with Genos or PA5X, but really good for beginner and even intermediate player.
I guess the DGX 670 has somewhat better speaker than the older 650.
As I can afford more I will buy A CVP 909 (for 9700 EUR). I would estimate the sound quality of the DGX 670 is about 80% to 90% of the CVP 909, but the price is less than 10%.
So the DGX 670 is really a good deal.
I agree: The bang for the buck is enormus ;-)

I would love of they made an upgraded version of this with 4 layering options. That would be cool :)

Thanks Woody. I see that most of your review comments line up with the comments I left you last time, so that's a great reinforcement for me. I'm sure that Yamaha won't be going through the comments on review videos, but I do hope that they might review what YOU have said.

If Yamaha could do just five things for this keyboard, it would be awesome.
1. Rear Panel upgrade, to like a EW-425 plus MIDI In and Out Din connectors.
2. More styles, say like 500 styles.
3. Three Intros, Endings, Fills and a Break.
4. Larger, 7" screen, 800x420, even if it's not a touch screen.
5. Replace the Mod wheel with a joystick.

If they did just those five items, they would have a great keyboard, the best in the price range (and yes, I do think they have the best now, and I'm a Korg fan as you know. Basically, give the SX-720 an 88 key keyboard and we'd be happy! LOL

Being of latin heritage, Im lmpressed by the quality of its tropical sounds. Its absoutely gorgeous in white, but the black version would be easier to keep clean. Its sound quality is without equal.

I have the previous model of it, it's a great piano. I hook up my iPad to it. I'm able to play on it that way. Very affordable for a full size

At one point in my life l sold nearly every digital piano made. Kurzweil, Korg, Suzuki, Casio, Yamaha and others l don’t recall. DGX670 surpasses them all. Great review sir. Thanks!

I am planning to buy one to my wife and connect it to my harman/kardon HK 3490 Stereo Receiver with two Polk Audio RTi10. Using the headphones lineout is no ideal but it seems like there is an option in the DGX menu to send out a signal that's (kind of) better than the regular headphones signal. Thank you for this video!

I buy Yamaha keyboards as entertainment tools for my jobs.(I use Roland FP for my "serious" music). My first work/entertainment keyboard was a PSR3000 and I would still be happy to use one for entertaining. They still hold their own 20 years later. The public would probably not notice any difference between a PSR3000 and a Genos 2. Although there obviously been many upgrades/improvements, it has to some extent just been a re-packaging stuff to sell.
I'm currently using a PSR S770 which I bought new when they first came out. I speakers/mic input and more than enough bells+ whistles.

Now you have to combine your DGX with looper to get that functionality you want.

I love this keyboard and I'm seriously considering getting one, but is there anyone that can tell me exactly, in detail, how to connect it to a PA system through a Mixer, using the headphone out?
Is it possible to do this in any way without degrading the sound?
I think I need to use a TRS cable into the keyboard and then connect into a DI box and from there into the mixing board, but is there an easier way? I know that when I normally use the headphone jack as an out on my P1 15, the sound does not sound great and is thinner.
I really want to use this for live gigging on stage.

This is a real steal, at the price there is really no comparison.

What I would be interested in knowing is where does this DGX keybed quality stand in relation to cheaper and more expensive digital pianos. What other Yamaha models have the same keybed as DGX, what would be a step up, what would be a step down, etc.
An overall review of keybed technologies in a modern Yamaha lineup would be also super interesting.
