Great news! I'm so happy for our Matildas and the Football Ferns, and women's football in general. ⚽🇦🇺🇳🇿

It's nice to get the women's world cup but we must do even better and host the men's world cup as well, that's the biggest prize in sport.

Absolutely chuffed with this, next step is to get that trophy and celebrate at the MCG ladies!

Nice shout-out to Pool too by Bayliss

I am an Australian but when Fifa announce the bud to host the 2022 world cup in Qatar I was not happy now you have the women's world cup in 2023 one year after the men's world cup in 2022

Combined with Liverpool winning the Premier League. Not a bad week for football.

now you need to make this women's world cup successful but you got to make it so successful that FIFA might ask you to sign up for the next men's world cup which could in either 2030 or 2034 world cup

Well done! Now let's show them how well we do it so we get the men's World cup too sometime before I die.

brilliant news. I hope the opening ceremony in some way celebrates the past, present and future of the matildas and the football ferns in some way because this is not always the way. now I have read some of the comments about hosting the mens world cup and it might not be every ones thought but the men don't deserve it. yes they are getting better but honourestly you need a team that has a chance of winning the whole thing otherwise the crowds will not go. Australian soccerroos have as much chance of winning the world cup as Scunthorpe united have of winning the epl. however the matildas with the right players and coach can win.

The Matildas will do great as long as they can get a decent coach because Ante sucks!

This is gonna cost the Australian Tax Payer Millions of dollars. Honestly Women's Soccer nobody cares about women's soccer. The Matilda's lost to the Under 16 Newcastle Jets boys team.
