Sloppy ? I always thought of Jimmy’s guitar as masterfully derailed . The point where his sickness in the solo clips over a note or tones out of control is the void we’ve all been waiting for. Love that stuff

Love your description of Page "just going for it."

Sloppy is so often applied to Jimi. This guy was a consummate studio go to guitar guy. When he played live he improvised but also could nail the exact method that he had going on the studio version. He would jam it in the studio live as well and Stairway to Heaven in a single take. I will take sloppy to BPM shredders.

Jimmy Page's playing in my best description is a nice combo of improvised lead and rhythm that sounded very slurred but always ended up making ends meet in huge way. Which means that Jimmy's playing was always very ballsy. When I listen to Page play live, I'm always waiting for him to screw up or just get lost in the solo but it never comes. He had so much endurance and plays his axe like he's going to war with the thing. He touched upon almost every sound you could make out of the guitar except for maybe metal and other very limited tones. He truly was the most versatile guitar hero/songwriter.

This song, easily one of the most repeatedly listened to songs of my entire life; and the Guitar solo is one of the most thrilling elements in the song. I’ve listened to Mendelssohn's violin concerto too, it’s great, …maybe even perfect, but I’m not cranking it in my car.

Carl, tons of thanks for taking the time to post this lesson. The video you had on the Simple Man solo was phenomenal as well. Thanks again for being so generous with your time to teach us less seasoned musicians how to play some great stuff.

I'm learning the madison square garden 73' version. Its a little slower, groovier and easier to get in the guitar licks Jimmy puts between the chord changes.

Jimmy Page wasn't sloppy.  He was stoned.

Funny thing, back in the day when ZEP, Purple and Sabbath ruled the rock word the consensus was Blackmore was the most gifted while page was more innovative when it came to tone, unique scales and layering. Blackmore pretty much played his solos straight even on the records. But it was perfect. Today, Blackmore lost interest for the most part in what he was doing in 70s, Page is kinda awol, but Icmmi is still a monster. He is the one of the three who got better with age.

Whenever I look up songs to learn I always pray I find one of your videos! When I can't it takes me 3-4x longer to learn it haha.

How do you do, Carl?
I’ve enjoyed your lessons.
By the way, would you teach me another ver. Rock And Rolled by Zepp?
It’s one in the album, TSRTS.
Especially, the intro of guitar solo!
I won’t know the melody. Please give me the lesson.
