I love watching Gilbert pitch because he has a similar style to Verlander. He's not quite as good yet, but when he knows he's at the end of an outing, the velo ticks up and he becomes harder to hit.

These two are the budding culmination of a great "draft, develop, trade" system that the Mariners have built over the last several years and are a huge part of why they've gone from perennial disappointments to annual contenders for years to come! I like them being on the down low because they're so sneaky good and nobody knows who the heck they are, but it's absolutely glorious seeing the Mariners get some love and attention. 2001 was a LONG time ago, and I can't explain how cathartic it was to see them finally in the playoffs last year! Both Kirby and Gilbert pitched exceptionally well in the playoffs as well, which is astonishing and encouraging considering they're both young and inexperienced. Seeing George come out of the bullpen and shut down Toronto was just icing on the cake! Go M's!
