Harbor Freight Bauer 1' SDS D-Handle Rotary Hammer Review

Here's a review of Harbor Freights 7.3a 1.9 foot pound SDS Plus rotary hammer I do some minor comparing to the Bosch bulldog 11255vsr the the unit Harbor Freight advertises as comparing to. I also do a Drilling comparison, Note: the Bauer appears to drill faster but the bottom of the hole broke out and so the Bosch ended up having to drill a deeper hole.

I have the Bauer and abused it really hard drilling multiple holes through hardened 6" concrete floor. It never quit. If it did I would take it back and they would give me a new one no questions asked.

I used an HF rotary hammer for about 5 years (DIY), then it finally gave up the ghost. It always sounded like it was going to explode, but it kept on going. I found a used bulldog at a government auction for $30 and it runs like a dream. Bosch is hard to beat in the long run.

Bauer is the go to tool for a contractor who only occasionally uses a certain type of tool. I worked for a contractor who bought a Chicago Electric breaker hammer for one time job about 10 years ago. At $350 at the time, it was cost effective to buy instead of renting. Years later, it's still banging out 10-15 concrete jobs a year. You can catch lightning in a bottle with some Harbor Freight tools.

Bauer 11sec, Bosch 12sec FROM YOUR VIDEO, dude! Yet, "Bosch was SIGNIFICANTLY faster", really? Of course, if it is 2x price, it has to be better, right? RIGHT?

I got the 1 1/8” bauer rotary hammer drill open box today at the parking lot sale for 34.00. All the cables are tied up and everything looked factory, unlike some of the other tools that were on the table. What a great buy I think. Using it at home as I have a brick house.

That was not “significantly” faster they both clocked in @ 11 seconds put them through a trial and error test with multiple tasks.
But just in case any one was wondering. Bosch for industrial sites and Bauer for weekend Warriors

I prefer to shop at harbor freight and not borrow anything from anyone

For someone needing a tool at home and not in a professional day to day manner, the harbor freight tools have been very good. I have a 3/8" drill that has been used a lot with no issues at all. I also have a jigsaw and sawzall from harbor freight. Never had an issue with either of them. I do understand the need for very dependable professional tools but for the home job, these are great.

Harbor freight doesn't make the comparison That their tool is better or the same for less money (at least the way I see it) there stating that for 75% less cost if one is willing to drill a hole for 2-5 more seconds then 75% less cost is

Man, I’m not even going to lie....when I first stumbled across your channel I thought you were super nerdy and figured it would be a horrible video. Now I watch every one of your videos and I’m in the process of watching the ones I missed in the past. I watch a metric shit ton of tool reviews/channels but currently the only channels that I watch every single video in that category are Ave and catus maximus. Keep it up man!

I bought a Bosch Bulldog at a yard sale this summer for a dollar. I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong with it. It seems to work just fine to me. In its case no less. With the paperwork. Now I need more SDS bits to run in it.

can this be used to drill through metal or do they even sell drill bits for the drill to drill through metal or is it just for concrete, can you recommend a good drill to drill through metal, thanks

Why compare to a tool that you obviously did not like even before the test. HF may say compare to the Bauer but what about the price. How much was the Bosch in comparison?

I am rebuilding my barn by building up a cinder block wall around the load bearing perimeter, which requires me to epoxy in 5/8" rear stubs every 3' in 30 year old hard concrete... The price seems right, but I would be nice and diming this project for who knows how long! Thinking I would exceed my 90 day warranty on the shitty knock off... any thoughts, or am I overthinking?

Bought the Baurer SDS Plus canister style and used a Bosch Bulldog SDS Plus with 3" chisels.

The bit never locked on the Baurer. Rotated away from the perfect angle vs the Bosch.

The other major difference was the Baurer was like running a fan on high. If your removing thinset, dont use the Baurer without a full Dexter plastic setup and a respirator.

Does the smaller Baurer lock a chisel from rotating?

I bought one of the big hydraulic presses from Harbor and it was missing one of the thick 1 1/2" press 'V' plates at the end of the setup at home. They COULD NOT send it to me. More than a month later I got shipped the same press I had originally bought with the instructions to remove the plate I needed and send the rest of the press back on a UPS return slip emailed to me. On principle, I could have just kept the whole thing but I did return it. I've never heard of anyone talking about getting replacements parts. May I'm in that rare .0001% but I recommend buying anything at Harbor Freight with either getting an extended warranty, using it heavily during the return time or thinking of your purchase as an expendable commodity. I'm going to get the Bosch Extreme, though, after watching this. That Bauer motor running does not sound healthy. Great video, thanks.

Harbor Freight understands their customer base. This isn't the tool you take on a daily job site. This is the tool for the homeowner like me that has a one and done job and then has the tool for the next family or friend that has a similar one and done job. I have the money to spend on a more heavy duty product/brand but it would be overkill and over spend. This thing is literally half the cost of the next cheapest one I can find at HD or Lowes that is similar design/spec with a "hammer only" mode(I'm removing 300 sqft of kitchen tile flooring). The fact they compare it to the Bosch I think is valid. You could substitute any other major brand at HD or Lowes because those are what your other options are that are similar to the Bauer..Bosch, Milwaukee, Makita, Dewalt, with prices ranging from $179-199....for a tool most us will use a handful of times at most.

I have a Bulldog Xtreme and I love it. I had an older HF rotary hammer, and it worked fine until it just quit working, but I didn't use it enough before the warranty expired. The Bosch has already lasted longer and it still feels much better than the HF one did new.

dude the baur was slightly quicker doesn't matter if the butte broke out in the end witch one got done quicker i think it definitely is comparable hands down and half the price next redo the test if its not accurate don't assume
