My dad used to make / be an engineer of oil pumps, and I can tell you from experience, he knows a LOT about cavitation!

Cavitation is a common problem in diesel engine cylander sleeves, as well..as I understand it, the bubbles are generated by the high frequency "BANG" when the fuel ignites...There are coolant additives that prevent (reduce?) this problem, by changing the surface tension of the coolant, I believe...As a mechanic, I have seen the results of this process.cast iron cylander sleeves as pourus as a sponge.

There is a machine called an Ultrasonic which is used to help clean surgical instruments. It uses cavitation to break up bioburden that gets stuck on the instruments.
