Russia has signalled retreat from South Ukraine's Kherson. A Moscow-installed official in the Kherson region has indicated Russian troops might pull back from the west bank of the Dnieper river. Ukraine is wary about Russia's move as it feels Vladimir Putin is only setting a trap for its forces. When Ukraine advances they do so at the expense of Ukrainian forces while Russia preserves their own.
Russians are not fighting for territory at this point in time - they are preserving their forces while destroying the finite reserves Ukraine has assembled for these large-scale offensives.
