Whenever I want to learn to play a song, and there's the D chord, I always hit the "thick" E, instead of the thinner strings. This really demotivates me.

A good way to practice this without looking is to mute the strings your trying to hit and then if a not plays out when strumming that means you hit the wrong string

Thanks for this! Currently teaching myself to play the guitar later in life after focusing my whole life and becoming a professional jazz pianist. From the music theory perspective it all is on the up and up so I can sound decent but my technique is terrible and it's so so much harder than piano!!

Hi, thanks for the instruction. Did I miss something? Why are you muting the D string (3rd from the top at 2:09 in the video) and how is that helping you avoid unwanted strings? Sorry, I'm not getting it.
