Nissan GT-R MY2017 | First Drive | Autocar

Most obvious is a new interior, with seats, dashboard and infotainment system to push it more upmarket - and into line with supercars like the Audi R8 V10 plus and Porsche 911 Turbo S.

Less obvious - but more significant to the likes of you and us - are the structural improvements, a 20bhp boost, revised ignition, transmission and exhaust systems. You get the idea.

The obvious question is then, how much faster is it?

Well, here's the trick, for a car that is all about the stats (to those who adore it) Nissan have quietly sidelined announcing performance figures for the 2017 model. So Matt Saunders is on the case to bring you the numbers.

Do you think this new GT-R is still a Giant-Killer? Or has it lost its edge? Comment below.

Why do Autocar have the most boring uninspiring presenters for performance cars. This guy should be doing family hatchbacks.

This in my book is an epic car. This car made the other manufactures step up their game. Regardless even if it is not a giant killer its still one fast fuckin car!

Awesome reviewer, bringing what we want to know, with no BS. Fantastic car, i wonder if i should get the new Giulia Quadrifoglio or a second hand R35 GT-R...

When the GT-R first came out, I worked at a Nissan dealer and was told that there was a significant problem with owners overusing launch control and breaking transmissions in an effort to reproduce Nissan's claimed 0-60mph times. It was a "giant killer, " as you said -- and that figure was the highlight feature of the car.

I know that the DSG technology has moved on since then, but I can only wonder if part of Nissan's motivation to stop publishing acceleration times is to acquire owners who aren't overly concerned with reproducing numbers. The cars get abused less, and the long term image and value of the cars increases.

I think his weight had a lot to do with the shitty 0 to 60 time !

2017 refinements make the GT-R look more modern, aggressive and amazing. GODZILLA will still be king! Dream Car! saving up my deposit.

Wouldn't it make more sense to buy an older GTR and put it through Litchfield?

Even Faketaxi driver would make a better review.

GTR is still the GTR just the entry level exotics now finally justify their huge stickers with more than just looks and sound.

what you've got to remember about the gtr, is that nearly everyone who buys one has it tuned, that's why these are so awesome, go on autotrader and see how many gtrs are standard, hardly any, there nearly all running Lichfield tuning packages with 650+ bhp.

Please allow me to comment on this "review".
1) The GT-R will do 0-60 in 2.7 as stated in ideal conditions. (Zero clutch wear, zero traction loss, ideal temperature, etc...)
Many real life tests have proven this since its launch in the DBA 550ps versions.
Personally in 99% of the drag tests it smashes every other car...
2) The refinement on the MY2017 was more for the things the GT-R was falling behind (noise, harshness, vibration, interior, etc...)
Now it is more mature and complete than ever. This doesn't mean performance compromising in any way.
3) The fact that the car in its "comfort" suspension settings is softer and more livable doesn't mean it has become 'softer'.

Oh, and i forgot... You were excited with the Honda NSX. A car that the chief engineer doesnt know the drag coefficient, they don't know the 0-60 times, was supposed to be a V10 NA FR car and became a GT-R wannabe 4WD V6 twin turbo few months before its launch...

As someone who just recently took delivery of a 2016 GTR I would say that I didn't get the car because of 0-60 times or how much faster it was than the next. I'm secure enough in knowing it isn't the giant killer it once was. And I was clearly aware of other cars being tenths of a second quicker but it's tenths of a second...all in all good vid. Wish I would have waited for the refresh because this one looks pretty damn good

I'm assuming the 0-60 is compromised in your case due to your abundant body ? I've have 2.8 to 60 out of 2 GTR's using similar software.

in my opinion, they took so much time in development that it is hard to make it any faster, even after all this years. Not at least as a mass production car from a generalist automaker.. A few bolt-on's could make it kick some ass. But in order to meet emissions and make it affordable.. i guess they nailed it from the start.
