My dad's tea addiction

We go on the hunt for this historic Australian tea, following Simon as he goes to independent supermarkets around Melbourne to buy up as much of the remaining tea as he can, and meeting other fans of Green Signal Tea from around Australia.

Dilmah changed their Jasmine tea from using flowers to extract. It is horrible. So I ordered 20 boxes of the original recipe as a buffer. Tea is serious stuff!

Here we are, 7 years on. 2024 and I can't get the stuff here in SA. Could only get it at selected Foodland and IGA supermarkets; that is until a month or two ago. Warehouse can't supply us they said. Last time I drove all over Melbourne and grabbed every pack I could find. Had a stash of 15 packs. That got me by until it reappeared again. Mind you, I swear the current blend is not the same as when it was sold under the Grifftiths tea label. Used to have a distinct Pekoe taste and aroma. I hope it hasn't bitten the dust like so many Aussie commodities we grew up with. Balfours jubilee cake (Adelaide), Wonderwax floor polish, Solyptol soap, Faulding egg cream shampoo which came in a tube (ever such handy for travelling as I'm sure my dear departed Welsh mother in law would probably have said). The list is endless. This saga of the missing tea has got me all of a doo dah. Just bring the stuff back so I can reclaim my sanity!

My favourite english breakfast teas are Yorkshire and waitrose essential.

Sounds like something I would do to be honest. I’m 17 and have been a tea lover my entire life 😂 I just drink English breakfast though. I don’t go a day without having one. My routine always includes a tea in the morning and a tea before bed (probably doesn’t help my sleeping pattern but Idc. It’s a routine and I won’t change it)

Hello, I am also addicted to the Robur Green Signal Tea and my stash looks very much like your father's. have noticed that the contents of the packets has changed !!! I am sure of this because i have really noticed the flavour change in my recently purchased luckily i had an old container of the tea in my caravan and was able to do the taste test and it tasted great the way it should. That distinct flavour is not there and it tastes like your average drink it black so there is no disguising the taste. I am hoping it is a seasonal thing ???? I would be interested to know if anyone else has noticed it too.
