[ASMR] Solubility of Ionic Compounds | Ksp, Common Ion Effect (ICE Diagram)
Показать описание
When we first learn solubility rules for ionic compounds, it's often from the stance that it’s either soluble or INsoluble, as if it's a yes/no kind of issue. In reality, solubility is on a wide spectrum, and in order to know the precise solubility we must do calculations. We need to use Ksp - the Solubility Product Constant - when we solve these kinds of problems.
In this video I talk about the general concepts of solubility, but then we get into some nitty-gritty calculations using Ksp and solubility concentrations. Also, I do an example that brings in the Common Ion Effect using an ICE Diagram (ICE = Initial, Change, Equilibrium). This technique allows us to discover how the presence of a common ion (one of the ions from the ionic compound) affects solubility.
Along with the calculations, I connect the numerical results with concepts and predictions, including using LeChatelier's Principle. Getting a numerical answer is great, but you must also understand what it means. Let's grow your chemical intuition. :)
I hope this video is helpful as you work on your homework assignments and prepare for exams!
