Ok. I'm a crane operator and I also got my cat second hand. Honesty cant imagine why it was orphaned . But mine is becoming an A-20 G Havoc!! Let that soak in.. Anyway I'm a pretty good scout and you have not cut any corners in shared information concerning this airframe THANK YOU SIR ! IM 62 years along over here and can't imagine landing on one optical unit !!

Great job. I can't wait to fly mine this spring. Thanks for the tips.

I greatly enjoyed your video. The first one I owned I destroyed the first by putting a 4S instead of 6s battery in it. Right after takeoff I had almost no power to keep it airborne. On emergency return I crashed. I since heve purchased another one and successfully flew it a couple of times with the help of my instructor on "buddy box". You video has addressed a lot of my fears and helped my confidence. For me, the most valuable is the landing tips. I am going to spend time on the simulator landing larger models.
It is a beautiful bird and thanks to you I am looking forward to the good weather to get it up in the sky and bring it back safely.
Thanks again and please keep sharing your information.

I'm an old fart who just started flying RC 3-years ago. I've got lots of planes now (+35 or so) of various types, biplanes, warbirds, general aviation and EDF's. I have to admit my biggest challenge has been "mastering" throttle management on landings. Large scale planes have probably taught me the most in this respect. Getting the 2.0m Carbon Z T-28 down on it's mains is pivotable, as I was getting tired of disassembling the nose gear servo in order to bend back the gear. I tell newer RC pilots, while some trainer planes will let you get away with floating in a landing, it's a bad habit. All planes will land better with throttle management. BTW, I don't own the FMS Tigercat...but it's on my list. 😉

I love it so much that i have two of them. IMO, one of the best planes ever made.

I do like tearing gear off a heavy planes myself. It is definitely tricky when you get closer to the ground with heavy aircraft.

Excellent video and tips for enjoying a larger model. And your flying scenes were great as well! "Larger flies better" - can't argue with that. I liked your advice on the landings. For me, the larger planes just have more mass - and if the landings are not done well - all of that mass is now trying to crush, punish, and break the landing gear. I watch video of full size war bird landings. They virtually always have an extremely gradual rate of descent and when the mains touch down it looks very gentle. They might lift off again and fly on for a bit, but they have the speed to continue flying with good control. They have the skills to do this well - (a million dollar war bird might require a bit of skill!) Concerning skills - during WW II there was quite a build up before some one was able to fly one of these war birds. In training they had three different training planes they used to learn and develop those skills. Then they were ready to move up to a war bird. The AT6 Texan was generally the last trainer before moving on. It was not an easy plane to handle. Some of it's difficult aspects made the pilot sharpen up his skills or else. A bit of the military philosophy was that - now that you can fly the T6 well - you can go fly our other stuff.

Nicely done Will. Very informative indeed! Great video for people considering this one. Requires some skill clearly...on the sticks and in the shop.

reverse is nice as well. I back taxi my p51. It steers great backward, lol. Not so much forward with wind tho...

I enjoy your videos, very informative and you are well spoken. I have one in my garage I have yet to fly. Have you experimented with the props rotating outwards vs inwards? I wonder if it makes any difference in flight?

I changed the gear for DIY trailing link because the originals are not tough enough on rough grass.

For newer pilots, the RC flight simulator Real Flight Evolution is $99. I HIGHLY recommend using a sim for your crashes and practice as opposed to $500 planes!

Yep, that plane is easy to fly. Flies like a giant trainer.
