Got something that is so simple...will blow your minds. Love what you two are doing! Please keep posting. This old woodsman enjoys this very much.

You can reuse the Aeropress filter many times. Just rinse the filter and put it back in the Aeropress to dry for the next use. To clean the French press, add water to the used grounds, swirl around and pour wet coffee in your plants or in your compost. That said, my favorite method of making coffee when traveling in the RV is the pour-over method which makes excellent tasting coffee in about 4 minutes with an incredibly easy cleanup.

You can reuse the fillers a few times. Also worth watching the video where the inventor demonstrates the ‘proper way’ to use it
Also worth looking up James Hoffmann video on it.

You can make more than one cup at a time. Put two scoops for two cups almost making a concentrated coffee, then add more water to the cup to dilute to taste.

Interesting comparison, what if you used course ground coffee in the areopress if it would change the taste ? Sorry like I’ve said said I’m a pour over coffee fan, it’s definitely not as full flavored as a French press but the clean up is so easy especially when you use a drip filter in it. Keep the great videos coming. ❤

Thanks for the video. I've been using the French Press based on your recommendation but have also been eyeing the Aeropress as of late. Going to give it a try when things warm up and we can camp again.

I have used my original aeropress for years now and I always prefer it over any other coffee maker when I go camping. It's unfortunate though because the original Aeropress included a zip storage bag, a large funnel to pour the coffee grounds, a much larger quantity of the paper filters (I haven't even run out yet) and a paper filter holder. I recently bought a second one and my new Aeropress doesn't come with any of that!

I was back packing for a week in canyonland. Jet boil camp stove with french press attachment. Previously use mini moka pot. What a mess to clean up. Water was scarce. I use Aeropress now.

The thickness you sense from the French press comes from the oils that the paper filter filters out of the coffee. I wonder if you used the metal aeropress filter if it would have those same oils.

Have used both of these methods extensively over the years. Aero Press easier to clean, but makes one cup. Think Aero Press has less ‘fiber’. Think taste difference is just personal preference.

I think you didn’t give the aero press a long enough steep and you were a bit random with the amount of coffee used where you were exact with the french press. I think you give that too long to brew. But hey, you will experiment and it’s your preference that matters.
I have aeropress, just wish it were bigger. They have XL now.

Is there a reason for pouring the water in another vessel (the measuring cup) before pouring it into the French press? Or was that just because you needed to measure it bc you weren’t filling the entire French press? You said something about a “meniscus”…??

Just a tip for safety AND flavor, use a wooden spoon when stirring your French press. A metal utensil can damage the carafe and the wood spoon keeps the natural flavors untainted.

Am I gross for not cleaning my French press after every use? Of course I dump the grounds and rinse it out, but I don’t use soap to clean it after each use. Only about once/week? Does it have some oils from the day before? Maybe a little, but that’s just not gross to me. 🤷‍♀️

I’m not sure if I missed something but you used one heaping in the Aeropress and 6 scoops in the french press. Did you use more coffee per cup in the french press? I do appreciate not using a scale since most people just want a cup of coffee without the science and math!!!

Aeropress is clearly the winner. You should try the inverted method. And also try tons of aeropress recipe on the internet.q
