Excerpt from VH1's 8-Track Flash Back, circa 1995. Here we remember George Harrison's visit to Saturday Night Live, to pick up Lorne Michael's ironically humorous $3,000 check. Note VH1's addition of a "six weeks later..." caption to tie the two clips together. And yes, that's George's "Dream Away" song at the beginning, definitely check that out sometime, it's gorgeous. :)

I have most of these 8-Track Flashback episodes. I recorded them on VHS when they were first airing around 95-97and copied them to dvd, which I still have. It was one of the best shows VH-1 ever did.

I've always known about the Lorne Michael offer- I saw it when it first aired and I howled! I didn't know George showed up on a subsequent show to accept the whole cheque! Wonderful stuff, and I Iove how George was willing to play along. He was initially reluctant to play any Beatles songs or even talk about the Beatles after the breakup, so by this time I guess he had softened his stance and didn't mind being talked about as an ex-Beatle, or perhaps he was gleefully poking fun at the legend that the Beatles had already created even less than a decade after it ended. And yeah, this is when SNL was actually good.

I still to this day quote George all the time, "It's pretty chinzty." With a British accent, of course.

James Paul McCartney died in car crash on September 11 1966 and was replaced by William (Billy). This is the truth no matter what!

John and Paul would have come, but the offer of $750 each was too chintzy.
