Mostly it's called ID, but it doesn't have to be. The primary key is the number that nobody has, but you. (Like your real id) If you want to delete a member later on your website, you can do that with his ID (identical number). That's a lot easier when you have multiple members with the same first name or last name.

Hope you get what i'm trying to say, because english isn't my primary language. :)
