Doug and the Slugs - Real Enough (1981) Official

Показать описание
From the album "Wrap It!" (1981) Video description by Simon Kendall of @dougandtheslugsofficial. "Real Enough was our second video project, also shot & edited by Rick Martin and Stan Szyczysyn. While the song lyrics are pretty obscure; the story in the video is preposterous - claiming that our bass player Steve had quit on the eve of a ‘big wedding gig’ so we had to kidnap him to play the event. During the intro we even had speaking parts - new horizons of stardom! When I saw Doug’s storyboard I was excited at the prospect of playing a vintage gangster, wearing my double-breasted suit & my new fedora from John Helmer's haberdashery in Portland OR. At the time Doug & I in particular favoured Sally-Ann suits onstage and we spent tens of dollars outfitting ourselves in vintage duds.
We shot most of the video at the Savoy Club in Gastown, it was owned by our manager Sam Feldman and was a favourite gig of ours. The wedding scene was shot at ‘Rockspace’ a rehearsal hall in Burnaby. We borrowed or rented a ’56 Cadillac limo (into which I threw Doug) and headed off to the wedding.
Friends and family had set up a mock wedding in the hall - we put out a cattle call for party extras and got plenty of help. My wife Pauline was 8 1/2 months pregnant, originally Doug had suggested a shotgun wedding with her & our promoter Peter McCulloch, but Doug’s wife Nancy ended up as the bride. Pauline is in the wedding party in baby blue maternity wear.
The star of ‘Too Bad’, Nicole is in the party crowd along with practically everyone we knew. Although Steve was the featured Slug in the story, the Slug Oscar goes to Richard, who finger-synched his amazing guitar solo at the end of the song while walking down the buffet table in his red patent boots playing a $50 Silvertone guitar. Our late beloved stage roadie Frank Felder plays the black preacher, honourable mention goes to the gal who face-plants in the cream pie during the solo.
Our daughter Ali was born the day before we screened the video - I showed up at the screening with a box of cigars for the Slug gangsters, we left for a tour of eastern Canada 3 days later."
