Chain can't be cut with a knife in a fight, but a rope can. If you grab your opponent's wrist with your chucks, a chain will hurt more, and you can apply more pressure because its rigid not stretchy. I'm sure a rope is probably way more stealthy if you got to be sneaky tho. I bought my first set of nunchucks 3 days ago and haven't set them down. It's beyond fun and surprisingly not that hard to learn thanks to tutorials on YouTube😉🤘

*Chains are clumsier and even though the strike impacts require less effort, they're still slower with a lot of moves regardless of the spin ratio being so superior.*
I have owned a lot of cord and several with chains and currently have a low end rattan chain-bearing set.
*The speed chucks I made with 3 lengths of paracord probably 15-20 years ago greatly outperform chain, but there is a major difference with what I built.*
A now seemingly rare form of speed chuck is your sticks are half the length, twice the diameter and your cords fill in for the missing stick portion.
*This creates an insanely fast and barbaric chuck for virtually every maneuver or strike possible, but your timing has to be better especially coming out of wild speed spins for a strike.*
Oddly, if you clip or club yourself, they don't hurt nearly as much as normal stick chucks, but again, the cord length gives you this advantage and my last and final set built was just a dense poplar; not a heavy wood whatsoever.

When it comes to the bolsters and chain nunchuck should the pegs where the chains attach pivot as well as turn? I ordered a hardwood set nice chain but compared to a foam set I ordered both have ball bearings the foam set pegs do spin freely by ball bearing but unlike the wood ones that freely spin they do not pivot inside the bolster. It's hard to explain. I mean basically should the peg that connects to the chain only turn 360° or should It turn and pivot inside as well? I used to be good at nunchucks now I feel like a noob asking this question.

I had chain nunchaku when I was younger and I used to swing and spin it all day. One day I flicked it out as in to attack and the chain with the ball bearings came flying out. I'm going to get 2 now, wondering if I should get 1 chain and 1 cord or both chains.

How do choose the length of the rope or chain?

There is no advatage to chain...other than showmanship speed.. you give your postion away if you take them out in a fight.. also the the ability to change length of Rope is a great benifit vs chain, in a fighting sence you want a long rope.. you can change it, chain you are limited. mind you as long as the opponent doesnt have a sword.. Rope or cord is the best
