The Seven-Year Devastation of Manipur

In the early 19th century, Manipur endured one of the darkest chapters in its history — a brutal seven-year-long occupation by the Burmese Empire. Known as the Chahi Taret Khuntakpa, or the Seven Years Devastation (1819–1826), this period saw the land ravaged, the royal family displaced, and thousands of Manipuri lives destroyed. The invaders sought to erase an entire kingdom, but instead, they ignited a flame of resistance that would alter the course of the region’s history.

Seven Years Devastation brings to light untold stories of courage, betrayal, and survival. Told through archival accounts and oral histories, the film traces the chain of events that led to the Burmese invasion, the decimation of Manipur’s culture and sovereignty, and the eventual reclamation of its identity through the resilience of its people. This is not just a story of loss — it’s one of resurgence. The film stands as a tribute to Manipur’s undying spirit and to those who fought to restore its rightful place in history. #7YearsDevastation #ChahiTaretKhuntakpa @ManipurMyGov

It's not a joke about the distance between manipur and the capital of burma nobody in the india region can't invade like that in burma although we have become a part of india which makes the outside world not knowing much about our rich history, we the Manipuris especially the meiteis should not forget our history which is full of everything.
Lets learnt from our past mistakes and make Manipur great again.
Ei esamk historygi phd scholar ama oina eikhoigi forefathers jingna lwrmiba role jingje ngktaba ngmmoi india da pungibadei eikhoigi history nmjngrabani sengna hairabada thailand burma gi da leiba eikhoigi history record singna hena india da eikhoigi history gi record ta leibana hena yammgani recognize fajana twbibada.
If we have remained independent like we used to do in the past, we would have occupied a big part in the history of the south east asia region.

As a Meitei, watching this global coverage of the Seven Years' Devastation is both heartbreaking and deeply personal. This was not just history—it was the darkest chapter of our collective memory, a time when our ancestors faced unimaginable suffering, yet emerged with resilience and unwavering spirit. May this story remind the world of Manipur’s strength, and may we never forget the lessons of our past. Let our history be told, heard, and remembered!
