It was only recently, after lots of head-scratching to what it meant, I learned that 'Thela Hun Ginjeet' is actually an anagram 'Heat in the jungle'.

According to Adrian's own comments, this was a real encounter he had on the street and then, when he rushed in the studio "shaking like a leaf" to tell the other members what happened, Robert quietly ordered the staff to start recording what Adrian was saying. He was shocked to know that Robert had done that, but part of me thinks that this was Robert being as much of a visionary than he's always been, and it gave birth to one of the best Crimson songs ever. The frantic rhythm of the song, with the powerful drums and the strong base line, I think it only gets better when the guitar takes the lead and illustrates the situation as if it were the protagonist of the moment. I don't really know how to describe it, but the guitar parts are running through the streets of the story...

I’ll tell you what I’d do, man: Two time signatures at the same time, man.

For me this has always been the highlight of this album. It's completetly insane song but it really works. It's a powerful song in its own way and I often use this in the background during my weight training. 😃

I have always sung "Watery grave, Thela Hun Ginjeet, watery grave, peed in the jungle stream." I will always sing it that way and you can't stop me.

"Discipline is never an end on itself, only a means to an end" indeed, who would've thought that a precision oriented album would turn out to be so danceable? Better highlighted on this song.

I find Bill Brufords drumming in particular unbelievably good on this track. If I remember correctly the personnel listing on the cover had the normal instruments to each member, but after Bill's name it said not drums but "Batterie". Perfectly illustrated on this piece the word I think describes the sound.

The Compact King Crimson was my first exposure to King Crimson when I was 14 and it has the key tracks from In the Court plus a lot of their 80s material. That compilation single-handedly changed the way I thought about music forever. I didn't know you can tell stories like that in Thela Hun Ginjeet, it feels so involving. And of course there were many other awesome tracks on it, like Elephant Talk, Heartbeat, Sleepless, Frame by Frame, Schizoid Man and The Court of the Crimson King. You people have no idea what King Crimson does to a 14-year old's mind. It's like my brain grew another new dimension.

My GOD I remember when this was released - it was SCREAMING from every car, dorm room & house Hifi. Unbelievable the years of this grouping. I think I saw them 11 times. If available - I’d buy tix for both shows if it were a double header. A sound like nothing before - nor there after.

Chilling, thrilling, truly amazing. One of the greatest songs by greatest band ever.

Perfect illustration that a bass player doesn't need to play a lot of notes to create a great bassline. Modern bass shredders could never have come up with this.

Just saw Adrian Belew and Jerry Harrison perform live in Anaheim and Danny Carey from Tool came up and sat in on drums and joined them to play this song. It was awesome!

It's the bassline, the goddamn bassline.

Best comeback/reunion album ever!

I’d even venture to say it’s the ONLY good reunion album ever made—inspired songwriting coupled with a fresh new sound that sounds nothing like their previous albums. A smashing success.
