Today I'm tearing into some old electronic security equipment that is part of the Supra TRACKkey system.

This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.

But it's how I do it.

Some cool stuff in that lot, and a lot of mess. :)

All you need is a high-powered magnet to break into the box

Very interesting. You reduced a fancy box into a pile of litter. Now you get to clean it up.

Contrary to the label, that battery looks like standard Lithium (Li-MnO2) not Lithium Ion (Li-Ion).

I wonder what the lockpickinglawyer would have to say about that lock, an interesting teardown just the same.

it looks like you could have just pulled the sticker off the front, unscrewed it, and cut out the battery and replaced it with an 18650.

all these systems are just restricted access or people counters, the security comes from the door and the lock, a big strong security guard or a large vicious dog may give better security:-)

So the 'security' company is selling really expensive lithium batteries with some free electronics and a hunk of metal. What a wasteful and crappy business model - good choice seeking another vendor.
