The shocker is Federer did not play badly at all. Djokovic was on rocket motors for the first 2 sets, returning and moving like crazy, getting to shots that would have been clean winners and sending them back with interest.

Djokovic produces some of the most spectacular angles off his ground strokes.

The first two sets of this match were maybe the highest level I’ve ever seen from one tennis player before

GOAT. This was his best match ever. Schooled Federer.

Fed Djokovic Head to Head was 27-23 of all their matches played. Just goes to show how even they were. Djokovic managed to dominate more in GS's when it mattered more. When the pressure was off Federer could sometimes dismantle Djokovic, but when the big matches came up, more often than not, Djokovic became the brick wall and just kept getting the ball back in play and making the least unforced errors. Federer had the tact, skill, imagination and finesse but over 4/5 sets he dropped his level too often and Djokovic punished him for this.

Djokovic has the mental and physical game to make himself.pretty much bulletproof to most players except Nadal on clay where Nadal will win 9/10 times.

Federer is such a skillful player but Novak is just a world.class athlete and is also, just like Federer, a great strategist.

The first 2 sets of this and the entire Doha 16 final vs Nadal are 2 of the highest level HC displays ever. Would have loved to see this Djokovic on a fast court vs Fed from Shanghai 2014 or 2017 when his offence was so good

Why did Roger go to the net when Novak has multiple spots on the court to return!

Roger did similar mistake when he was at 40-15 in set5 of Wim19F

Djokovic is the strongest, but Federer is the artist

Incredible point. Every shot hit by both players were right off the centre of the racket. The approach shot by Federer was great. A barely short ball was punished, hit on the rise and well into the corner with good pace. The last shot had the highest difficulty level and Novak had the skills & wheels to pull it off. Super wheels to get to it, core strength to balance himself and technique to whip / spin the ball into the corner with just enough pace to beat Federer. Top level tennis overall.

Wavrinka always played Djokovic better . Less flashy than his famous countryman, but very very steady with power from both wings

That’s not finess it’s accuracy . Federer is Funes’s 💪

Federer was very late on that approach. Your supposed to be near the net by the time someone is trying to return.

Djokovic, as good as he is, has always been a more reactive player. He rarely make s the play as seen here. To me this mostly explains his lesser popularity than the other two ; just not as exciting to watch - but gets the job done so to speak.
Apart from in his earlier career, Fed just never match up we'll against him

Fed you pulled Djokovic over too much on the approach and gave him a bigger angle
