Iceland is bracing for a volcanic eruption after experiencing hundreds of earthquakes.

Cracks have appeared on town roads as Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula experienced over 500 earthquakes on Monday.

Seismic activity has decreased, but scientists still anticipate a volcanic eruption.

Experts emphasize that a 15km-long (9-mile) river of magma beneath the peninsula remains active, posing a threat to the evacuated town of Grindavik.

The majority of tremors have occurred under this area, prompting hundreds of people to flee.

Over a thousand earthquakes‽ I hope everyone stays safe. I know losing things can be heartbreaking, but they're worth nothing compared to a single life. My heart goes out to everyone affected.

You swapped the names of people. Second person talking is Vidir Reynisson, not Hans Wiere, Hans was the first person you interviewed.

So grateful to see local police organizing animal safety evacuations (pets and livestock) now that shelters are set up. It's on a local Icelandic channel. Good job, neighbors.

Actually, thousands of people - as opposed to hundreds which she claims at the start, but later corrected by another reporter - have evacuated. The man speaking at 1:07 is not "Hans Wiere - Grindavik resident" but Víðir Reynisson, the public communicator for the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management, a government official.

2020 was wacky, but 2023 is just a depressing year for many.

Biggest danger is about 3 weeks after 1st eruption. The reason is earth quakes to eruption to release the pressure, then as pressure is released, there should be another shifting.

Fortunately Icelandic emergency services seem very well trained & equipped to deal with seismic activity of this extreme nature!

Grindavik is very near the main airport at Keflavik, and not far from the capital, Reykjavik. This is not the part of Icelannd which usually gets hits by serious earthquakes and volcanic eruptions., most of which centre around Vatnajokull in the south east of the island.

Serious difficulties due to a significant increase in natural disasters will begin from 2024 worldwide. We need to stop all conflicts and separations and unite all humanity for the single goal of survival. Only in a peaceful and safe *Creative* *Society* we will be able to solve problems with natural disasters.

Iceland is directly over a volcanic hot spot on the tectonic boundaries of the far north.

BBC got this wrong - also yesterday. They keep saying that hundreds of people have been evacuated. That is wrong, not hundreds, but thousands. 4000 people have been evacuated. The whole town of Grindavík.
