Yavin as Year 0 for the New Republic makes perfect sense. I can't see the Empire using it- they used the date of Palpatine's assumption of imperial power. Was Order 66 itself public information? I know they told people the Jedi had rebelled and had to be put down [which they had done, at least as far as those who went to the senate that day], but was the fact of Order 66 itself made known? That seems like the kind of advance prep work one keeps in the classified records forever.

While Mace was definitely a favorable teacher. I'm not entirely sure he was right for Anakin. Simply put, even as a kid Mace didn't like him at all and with his strict training he'd probably suck up to palpatine even more. Anakin is Emotionally unstable, something Mace has no clue how to deal with. Hell even Yoda basically said 'suck it up buttercup' instead of giving actual advice as to how Anakin should handle his death premonitions. Anakin shouldn't have been trained by a single master but various masters. And for God's sake, get this kid a fucking therapist.
