This past week has been one of the most devastating for journalists in Gaza. This, in a war that has already been described as the “deadliest period on record” for the media. Meenakshi Ravi has the details.

In recent weeks, there has been an alarmingly small number of official voices calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. One exception has been Francesca Albanese - the United Nation’s Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian territories. The reason Palestinian messaging is reaching further is because, even those who were unsure about the situation, are now having their suspicions about the Israeli's system of apartheid and ongoing human rights abuses confirmed. Francesca Albnanese is an amazingly strong person - I can only imagine the level of abuse she's been subjected to by pro-zionist forces, yet she remains steadfast and truly neutral in this awful conflict.

One should stop using the terms “terrorists”, "evil", and “criminals” for one side only. The terms we use not only show our biased view of real historical events but also distort the events for those who hear the news. This is my request to all the journalists. The state of Israel is itself committing atrocities. Being in power does not mean that one is just defending and in one’s right and has only prisoners whereas the others are having hostages.

Throughout my ten years of working at Al Jazeera, I've never watched a program more consistently than this one, and the work these past few weeks has been exceptionally compelling. As someone brainstorming how to develop a media watchdog group specifically around this issue, the last 7 programs have been instructive and invaluable. I know I'm not alone in this view.
