Flange Binding on your Quilt

Hello everyone! Today, we are going to show you how I bind and finishing the quilt using a flange binding!

I was taught to make the flange binding out of 1.5 inch strips for binding part and 1.75 strips for the flange part or fake pipping.

I now use 1.5 inch strips for the binding part and 2.0 inch strips for the flange part because I have 2.0 inch strips.

Once the strips are sewn together, you iron the binding in half the long way, you sew the binding on to the back with the flange part up and the open side to the edge of the quilt.

You can also manage your corners like other binding tutorial but I cheat and trim out the excess fabric in the corners to make my perfect milters on top!

The hardest part is joining your binding ends together but I hope this makes sense.

If you have another method of putting binding on to finish your quilts and it works well for you, do that method. A Finished quilt is better than another unfinished object (UFO).

Remember to relax, put your feet up and breathe! Enjoy this process and be proud of what you are able to do.

Most importantly, quilting is about having fun not feeling pressured!

There is so many things to look at on a scrappy quilt that other people won't notice any little mistakes you make.

Let us know, in the comments below if you want us to run a sew along for hand piecing or machine piecing for the end credits quilt or an alternative quilt.

I hope this helps you conquer your Mount Scrapmore!

I love flange bindings! They look like they should be so much more complicated to make than normal bindings, but they're actually easier because there's no hand sewing 🙂

I have not seen this method of binding before. It looks a lot easier than the way I have been doing it. It turned out very nice. I will need to watch this again, when I have another quilt ready to bind. This method is to new to me. Thank you for this video.

I have never seen that method of turning corners before! I learned something new today. Thank you. :) I've always wanted to try a flange binding, too. I can see some experiments on my current quilt.
