The word “obsessed” might a bit too strong, most of people don’t even know who he is, since the spotlights have always been on the president, and saying that the foreign minister was missing for other reasons shows that you have know ideas about what really happens and how politics really work in China. XI is being soft on his own man and that’s why Qin Gang’s able to keep his political status( member of the committee of national affairs )within the party while losing his job as the foreign minister. All that because he was promoted by the president himself, so it would be disgrace and embarrassment for Xi if his own man got demoted further more. I agree that this affair shows some conflicts within the party and more personally against Xi, otherwise such things wouldn’t even be revealed.
