I would like to know the name of this small tree that my neighbor has. It is about 10 feet tall and appears to be evergreen, considering it did not loose its leaves during the Winter. Would this tree be a good fit for the Mid-South's climate? Is it evergreen? Would it be easy to maintain? And could I easily keep it pruned to height of about 10 feet?

Chris and the others identify this tree as a Sweet Bay Magnolia.

Hey ya'll, what a blessing to find this video after literally spending the last 4 hours going through a list of Pinellas County FL "shade and accent 9b-10a " trees that I have to plant. We are finishing up a project for our circle drive and the county says we have to plant 2 shade trees and 1 accent tree. I am older now 69 and my husband is handicapped 72 and we don't want to rake leaves. The list 45 species shade trees and about the same accent tree list. I don't want any leaves dropping so I am thinking of this Sweet Bay Magnolia. Our home is a postage stamp lot in a water front community our neighbor on the water seems to have the regular variety Magnolia. Anyway, I really enjoyed your video, the best one out of a plethora of them that I watched this evening. Shalom my friends and keep shining the light.

I planted one of these 2 years ago and its doing great. We’ve had a heat wave in Memphis and I’m curious how much watering I should do to keep it healthy?

We have a couple at work and the smell is phenomenon, they are about 15-20 high and only spread out about 4 ft at the widest point. I was wondering if this is a certain kind of sweet bay or is sweet bay anything going to stay this size? The main reason I want it is because of the very fragrant smell and the fact that it doesn't get to high or wide and I'd like to try and grow them in my yard. I was wondering, it's winter here in Alabama, the trees are bare of leaves but there are some sprigs with healthy leaves still on them growing out of the ground, I can't dig them up here at work, but if I snip them as close to the ground as I can can I transplant that? The sprigs are about a foot tall and what will one day be the trunk is very thin and green. I tried pulling one up but they must be growing out of the tree base instead of the ground so they won't pull out. Would I be better off to cut these while it's cold, or cut them when it's spring? Or would I be better off to just cut a branch off the big tree beside it after winter is done. I'm trying to have something that I can stake at home instead of a little seed that may take me forever to grow and I don't want to buy one not knowing what particular sweet bay this is, ex little gem, etc
