Flatiron Hike -- Superstition Mountains (East of Phoenix, AZ) -- Steep!

12/12/21. Flatiron is arguably the most popular hikes in the Superstition Mountains (Sups for short). Most people start in Lost Dutchman State Park and go up Siphon Draw, but I park on First Water Road and go across Jaco'bs Crosscut to save myself the park fee and get a warmup in. This is very steep and strenuous if you aren't used to hiking these types of grades. There will be many other people on the trail. Going up to Point 5024 is much better, in my opinion! My shoes fell apart on the way down from the top of Flatiron and i had to hike down half barefoot/half with make shift sandals from the remnants of my boots. It was insane. Was also racing the Sun to get down bc we got there a lil too late. Luckily, i was able to find a mysterious pile of clothes somewhere half way down with a size appropriate pair of shoes. Literally no signs of anyone around as if they got abducted out of their clothes or something 😮😅😂 oh and i also smoked DMT at the peak of Flatiron when i was there…. It was an experience to say the least.

My friend and I overnight camped up on top of flat iron this last new years. Honestly one of the coolest things I've ever experienced, as soon as midnight rolled around the entire valley lit up with fireworks, we started super late and had to go up in the dark for around 2 hours with an extra 30 lbs or so each of camping gear but it was really dope lol would recommend

Best but worst time to do Flatiron is after a rain storm. All the waterfalls are going, it’s beautiful, but it makes the hike a little more challenging. I’d like to say you made damn good time up that trail! You sound like me sucking wind though! Thanks for sharing!

This was a great video and a real treat to watch. You showed the trail and other views which is what I want to see. So many people keep their camera on their faces it is hard to see anything. Do you know where the t-38 plane crash site is? I heard there was a cross there for the single pilot lt. Stone. Is it by where you were in this video?
