Ignores you and then realizes when you leave- that... that's realistic...

you know, this always kinda clocked me as an early warning sign that kara was bad news, but I tried to ignore it and hope it would work out anyway. well, now that we know beyond reasonable doubt that kara is an emotionally abusive piece of trash, I kinda wanna look back on this scene once again.

kara definitely knows what she's doing in calling tuca "her girl" before introducing all her other friends she calls her girl. the kind of string along tactics that everyone would instantly clock as skeevy in a dude.

and then, she follows tuca outside and, instead of acknowledging she made her upset and apologizing, evades it and distracts her by telling her a funny work story. kinda like how every time she's done something bad to tuca once they're together, she just gives her a pin in lieu of an actual apology.

I have the feeling Kara is only looking for fun.
The ghosting, the way she refrenced Tuca as one of her girls (which I think implies more a friendship than a poly-group) and how she provokes a kiss by leaning towards her is something I recognized from my on dating life and there it never ended well.

I love how Kara just hits Tuca up casually in front of someone she ghosted for apparently no reason. Yikes.

Kara is one of the most accurate portrayals of an emotional abuser that I’ve ever seen and she’s a freaking sea gull!

I think how this show handles this relationship is really well done. As an outside viewer, it is hard to see the red flags, or you just dismiss them as "quirks". I think that in tv shows and in real life people assume that themselves or their friends being in relationships is better than being single, so they'll support any relationship they see without really paying mind to the things that could be harmful about it. Some red flags here were Kara's lack of boundaries and weird ways of treating her friends. And many more continue to pop up later on. But it's so easy to overlook things like that when you think being in a relationship is better than being single. You think it's good even with the red flags, since at least they aren't single. People shouldn't be afraid of being single and should be much more cautious and observant in their own relationships and when they look at the relationships of other people they know. Just because someone has a partner doesn't mean you should root for their relationship automatically. I think a big factor into how people get trapped in toxic relationships is how demonized being single is in our culture and how it is expected to see every relationship as "good". Our culture also treats relationships that end as if they are "failures" when they really are not. Not all relationships should last

I wonder if Kara is either polyam or maybe one of those straight girls who calls her friends her girlfriends and kisses other girls for fun without realizing the other person might be serious. I do like her so far tho.

Edit: WOWIE! This aged like MILK! Anyway Kara sucks.

The fact Kara and Tuca only knew each other for two days and then Kara rushed the relationship and she’s a awful nurse who sends out her patients personally photos (which she can get fired for) and how she tells her patients stories which are supposed to kept inside of work and not outside.

Nothing sucks more then being someone's girl in this sense... I had a friend who went on about how much of a friend and mom figure I was.. then introduced me to 30 others with the same description...

All the signs about Kara were there from the beginning.

I hate so-called friends like this, who give super mixed signals. 😖 They never see me awkwardly trying to integrate into the group, but they sure as hell see me going off for some alone time or trying to leave. Like, do you want me there or not, bish?

You kinda start to see all these red flags in the beginning. You either don’t notice them, maybe you only see one, or you might even see all of them but think they’re so small and insignificant and unrelated because everyone has flaws right?

I think this scene right here outright showed us that Kara really has a lack of regard for other people’s feelings and was only really in it for the fun. Between the bartender telling us Kara had ghosted her despite hanging out with friends literal feet away from her to Kara inviting Tuca to join just to ignore her most of the night.

It’s really interesting writing to see a character like this. She’s not outright abusive or hateful. She’s just a bad partner to have in a relationship because she’s very uncompromising and self centered.

Edit: ((spoilers)) I have watched the other episodes so now I don't feel this kind of way anymore knowing that the "rushed" content was red flags from Kara and her toxic behavior. Though, I still feel Tuca could've waited a bit more before jumping into a relationship so fast but I guess that's her personality? That's my only complaint. I loved the writing Kara's toxic side plot. Not Kara, just the writing! I loved how realistic Kara's behavior was. The last episodes with Kara were definitely powerful. I give credit to the writers! Definitely will be rewatching these episodes again just to look for the red flags.

If I'm being honest I feel like this relationship was extremely rushed. Sure we get a whole episode to them but that was it and it felt they only had a mutual feelings for each other. In this episode it's trying to focus on Birdie's fansties while trying to put Kara and Tuca together... Through texting. In the last episode it seems like Kara completely balances out Tuca, gives her advice, while being fun as well. In this one it just feels like Kara is some kind of player with all the ghosting and calling everybody "her girl". It doesn't seem like the same Kara. I feel like Kara is just using Tuca as entertainment. Not a fan but I was just getting into this show but it just seems that the episodes are either rushed or have major plot holes for gags. This just had a major turn off for me considering how nice the last episode was compared to this one.

I'm not sure if Kara is emotionally abusive towards Tuca, but Tuca shouldn't have to change if Tuca doesn't want to. Sure she can be a bit much to other people at times, but someone will love her despite that. At least I hope that Tuca is able to have a healthy relationship with the person she would be dating. I love Speckle since he is a really sweet guy in the show who tries to help Bertie when she's having a panic attack.

I love the acting when they’re about to kiss, the slow build up from getting comfortable to inching yourself closer to them to make sure they’re comfortable to the unspoken agreement that this is something you both want and finally the two of you giving into instinct, with the euphoria of both the release of sexual tensions and comfort in knowing that you trust one another.

It’s one of the best depictions of a first make out session I’ve ever seen.
