My late German wife used to make a cake like this, except she used plums. She called it Pflaumekuchen, or plum cake. Thanks Chef John! Now I will be able to recreate her lovely cake and renew her memory as well! Previously I had no idea how to do it.

Baltimore has been in the news lately. I advise watching Chef John, enjoying the cake, and avoiding the comment section at all costs.

Chef John, thanks for the trip down Memory Lane.
My wife and I were talking this past weekend about the Peach Cake our respective parents and grand parents would serve us from Baltimore's famous Silber's Bakery from the mid 50's through the 70s.
Silber's Peach Cake was circular and the peaches were thinly sliced and overlapped across the surface. The cake was moist in texture.
Yours looks very similar to those cakes and we plan to replicate your recepie with Fredericksburg Va peaches.
Yours is the best cooking blog on the internet.

I worked and lived in Baltimore for 10 years, discovered this at Big Mamma's on 25th Street; it was awsome especially after a plate of roast pork and beans & greens. Thanks Chef John.

This Maryland girl approves! I haven’t had this in many years. Watching this was very nostalgic for me. I remember watching my aunt making this when I was growing up and eating it at the peach festival at church. Thanks for bringing those memories back. I will have to make it soon.

Chef John,
I love that everything you know abt B’More you learned from “The Wire”. It’s an underrated show.

My mother in-law, a native Baltimorean, made this on a regular basis. Delicious!

As an old former Baltimorean, the cake directly under the peaches SHOULD be a little "doughy". And, thanks, because I've been looking for this recipe for decades! btw: I've never seen the glazing of the peaches, but I don't suppose it would be bad to use apricot or peach preserves.

I am from Baltimore and my mom made this. She grew up during the depression in East Baltimore near John's Hopkins so that was a very diverse neighborhood! #BMOREPROUD!!! Thanks Chef John!🥳💪💗

I appreciate how you committed to this recipe even though you had your doubts along the way and suggested what you would do next time. One time I under baked some cinnamon buns, so we ended up enjoying cinnamon buns that were under baked! No crime was committed...Thank you Chef John!

In Baltimore, it is forbidden to glaze with jam. Dust with powdered sugar. My grandmother used whole half peaches.

Also, this cake needs to be gobbled up in a day. And thanks for honoring Baltimore, a city with a distinct and wonderful cuisine.
