Heat Pump Inverters Are NOT The Answer!

In this video, Joshua Griffin goes through a shift in the HVAC industry where some technicians are using heat pump inverters as a solution to many of the issues we face today. Although these systems are very good at hiding certain problems and issues, Joshua believes it's still necessary to continue to do things properly. Just because these systems can mask, certain issues does not mean those issues do not still exist, and can still continue to cause problems.

I just bought and had a dual fuel communicating inverter system installed at my house. So far it’s been great and I’m happy with the system. My home is much more comfortable and humidity is controlled very well.

My Bosch 2.0 inverter heat pump works great for me in Central Minnesota. It gets pretty humid in the summer sometimes, but have not had humidity issues with the Bosch. Saving money every month on electric bills, and it is quiet.

We've done alot of Daikin Fit and had alot of issues with them on cooling and heating. People hate that they don't feel the blast of cold air on their face which is something we thought people would like.

I have installed the Bosch inverter systems before with no issues, but also have heard of them with dehumidification issues

What is thr process for doing a heat load calculation? Do you need fancy equipment? Or can you just use the building square footage? I have a new system on order but I don't think the contractor calculated anything.

I have a 2 stage heat pump I want to take off grid & run on Solar to power it. About How many Watts does a heat pump pull so I can size my inverter correctly?

Looking at an inverter HVAC system but also need to consider zoning for 2 story home. What do you think, is an inverter capable of being installed in a damper controlled zone system? Looking at BOSCH system.

Very good educational video; I know nothing about inverter and communicating systems so I just learn something! Thank you.

Everything I have read and researched go towards inverters. They last longer.

there needs communicating standards put in place so that control boards thermostat vfd, etc....from one manufacturer to another, so one could be used to replace another manufacturer's, just like computer video etc...boards of a computer can be interchanged with other pc manufacturers. what all the secrecy about, what are trying to hide.

Isn't the main advantage is you can install a bigger tonnage for winter heating power without being oversized in the summer. Now I get you don't want it to be too big but if your last system was appropriate and you want it to be your heater and work through cold spells you want the next step up.

in my opinion title is click bait, gives impression that inverters are bad. As well I think Joshua is missing big advantage of inverter system... it can slow down if "oversized", which boosts efficiency and probably life expectancy... a 3600 rpm diesel engine will last 1/4 of a 1800, same goes for compressors, slower reduces wear and tear. Normal oversized system has lots more startign and stopping, inverter can just run steady. Normal oversized has big initial start up draw, inverter can efficiently slowly speed up.

efficiency of an Inverter vs. the true cost of ownership tells the story. So, what is the true cost of ownership? hundreds of dollars every 2 to 3 years for a professional cleaning to maintain that efficiency that is claimed. Thousands of dollars or complete replacement costs if a major component needs to be replaced that is if you can find someone that is qualified to do the work. I know of new inverter heat pump installations in my area of the northeast that have exposed line sets pointing towards the sky for weeks waiting for the outdoor unit to be installed. This is in a new development that has outlawed fossil fuels in a 145-house development. I am not saying this is happening everywhere, but I would say that most contractors in my area don't even know what best installation practices means. I think this is a real shit show!

I cleaned someone else's mini split hp this summer. No water inside circuit board area. It threw an E6 error code. I spent 5 hrs longer on the PM drying the 10 yr old outdoor unit out before it would come back on properly. I will never work on any but my own mini hp installs from now on. They are cheap, overly sensitive, communist Chinese junk. I will only install them where a central system will not work. How long does it take you to clean the indoor wall units? Yeah, try about 15 min setup, 15 minutes cleaning and inspecting and 15 minutes putting several trips of stuff away. I can clean and PM my American Standard Air Handlers in 10 minutes with two handfulls of stuff. How many of all of those specialty factory only parts do you keep on your truck or van??? Yeah, that's what I thought. I can fix 90% of my central systems on the first call unless it’s a leaker in need of repairs or something major...compressor, coil, RV, accumulator, etc.

Bad news bud. The rest of the world says you're wrong. Heat pumps are the way to go, and inverter types are more efficient.

Spot on Josh longbb b overdue nobody wants to do it pay for serious manual j d s $600-2000. Oversized units generate larger profits up front, may earn you an unnecessary dehumidifier sale,

So, if my house calculates to 60, 000 heating- +5 deg, and 24, 000 cooling +95 deg, why wouldn't I size a cold climate inverter capable of 20% to 110% operation to the heating load?
