New research suggests the dominant strain of the novel coronavirus found in North America and Europe is a more infectious mutation called D614G, but public health advice on preventing the spread remains the same.

Whenever I read "may" in a headline I think "may or may not" to help remove the skew:
"Coronavirus has mutated and may or may not be more infectious".
That sums it up nicely. "Hedging" words, could, might, etc, same thing.

Evolution at work. The most infectious and least virulent mutation outcompetes all the others for transmission. Anyone who has been giving themselves a crash course already knows that this is normal behaviour for viruses. Good to know that everything is proceeding normally.

All viruses mutate and will almost entirely become less deadly. Viruses need a host. And if all the hosts died, the virus wouldn’t be very effective.
