I am happy to release my new free online guitar lesson on how to play Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing.

Little Wing is burned into most of us guitar players. I realize that I had not been playing it exactly the right way for the last 30 years :) So, I learned it in a manner much closer to the original. But even after learning it, my hands were too small to actually play it correctly in some ways.

I think the thing to do in this situation is make it your own because his feel is so profoundly loose and great at the same time, it's really always a bit out of reach.

How did a guy who started playing at age 15 and died at 27 come up with such cool techniques?
Been playing for 46 years and this stuff still fascinates me. 👍

This unassuming looking man is one of the greatest guitar players on the planet. If you passed him on the street you would never suspect that he has played on some of the greatest recordings ever made. Looks can be deceiving, but the talent is incredible. Thank you, Tim, for the passing of your incredible knowledge! I aspire to be half this good and it would make me better than anyone within 100 miles of me.

Just taking the time to consider the value of this free lesson. At 42 looking back at 15 years I would have sat through 5 or six lessons at 15.00 an hour gladly to learn this. I would not have possibly gotten anywhere near this mans level of instruction. YouTube has us all spoiled, we have access to so much at no cost.
Thank you Tim Pierce.

40 dislikes? Were they expecting Jimi to be teaching? I think this was pretty well put down by Mr. Pierce

First, thank you so much for sharing your talent. Second, a quick tale from eons ago as in 1969. I'm 15 1/2 years young and living in Los Angeles when news starts floating round that Mr. Jimi will be playing The Devonshire Fair Grounds. Tickets were $3.50. Sold American! My friend and I are sitting about fifteen feet from Hendrix and my eyes are burning his hands hoping to learn something. ( I learned that I knew nothing yet) My teacher at Lou Adler's Music, and good 'ol Mel Bay books, kept preaching to me about my big thumb creeping up and over the neck but here was The Man himself using his thumb on the low E all over the fret board. When we got home and grabbed our Fenders I found myself trying to plant that E and a whole world opened up while another collapsed. I stopped my lessons and just played every chance I got.

Whenever I hear this song it makes me want to weep and be thankful for what I have in life. I spent 6 hours now on this and I can play thru it albeit quite slowly. GREAT lesson; very patient teacher. I'm getting to a place I never thought I'd get to Tim. Thanks and bless you.

I applaud anyone like Tim that dedicates their life to music and finding perfection everyday. Jimi was great because he practiced more than anyone else. He had his guitar where ever he went. Jimi was blessed with incredibly long fingers and large hands, but a man with smaller hands have an advantage too. It all comes down to what your goals are and how hard you want to work at it. Nothing comes easy.

Taken me about 8 years to learn 15 seconds of this song and I still can't get the timing down. I refuse to give up.

My favorite guitar teacher. Tim teaches stuff above my ability in such a way that when I'm done with his tutorial I'm playing at a substantially higher level. He has a way of making subtle nuances obvious enough that you can spot and master them.

It's insane how we all physically play this song differently and it still sounds good no matter what. LOL That's how you know it's a keeper (as a tune).

Began playing guitar at 8 years old, took some guitar lessons, cut by teeth on sixties folk rock, heard Hendrix and got bit playing through out junior high and high school in a rock band, even in night clubs. Took martial arts in my mid twenties under third ranked world Zen Karate Doe instructor, converted to Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism at 29. Perused many You Tube videos of guitar instructors. Tim Pierce is at that caliber of professionalism of the aforementioned martial arts instructor. Uncanny nuance. Your focus is your reality. Thanks Mr. Pierce!

The thing that attracts me to this tutorial is the way Tim explains all of the dynamics of the melody. He really breaks everything down. He also includes the challenges some people may have without long fingers....right up my alley, he gives options/solutions for different situations.

Just watched this one again - all the way through. I've never mastered this style of playing off partial chords. Just a splendid break down of Jimi's style Tim. I truly thank you for posting this.

Great video Tim!!! Recently wondered why at 37 years old I’ve never sat down and learned more than just a few bars of the Intro. I learned the rest right here from you!! Much easier seeing it than checking out the numerous wrong nuances and tabs floating on the interweb. I trust Tim!! Thanks. I’m subscribed and always look forward to learning something new.

Great Stuff, great teacher.   I'm playing guitar for nearly 40 years and i grew up listening to Jimi and I'm still amazed how free and unindependend Jimi played, he didn't care about theory and just played what his ears and heart liked to hear….he's one of the greatest players ever. Thank you Tim!

This really is a great lesson. It took me a few weeks to get it smooth, but all the small adaptations for smaller hands (an affliction I also suffer from) really helped.

This....and Castles Made of Sand, an enormous help in helping navigate the playing Everest that is Hendrix. Just had a playing epiphany at age of 40, you rock Mr.Pierce!
