I can tell this is an old film, cause the actress can act actually and the conversation has substance.

The awkwardness of this is so real. And notice how uncomfortable Kenya was and how natural Brian was. Sometimes the pressure to be "black" the way you think the black community wants you to be can ruin a good relationship before it starts, but that tension is what makes this RomCom good.

Love love love this movie. As a person happily married in a mix-race relationship, this movie hits the nail on the head. Lathan and Baker do such a great job in this movie. They trip over so many obstacles of their own creation, as they navigate family, friends and coworkers. In the end...go where your heart leads you.

One of my former coworkers (who was in her forties and Black) was pursued by a White man. She told me that she asked her mother if she would be okay with her dating a White man and her mother said yes because she wants her daughter to marry someone soon. Well, my coworker was so concerned what her friends and family would think that she rejected the guys advances. Turns out two years later the guy ended up marrying one of her Black friends. She jokingly said to me "That could have been me" with a tinge of regret.
