Corrections:
1. In the intro I meant income not revenue.
2. The Rio buildings have been abandoned since 2016 so 8 years, not for over a decade

For me, hosting the Olympic games was the best thing that happened to Rio de Janeiro. The entire port region has been renovated and is incredible. Transport was vastly improved with the expansion of the metro and the creation of a Tram that helped to revitalize the city's historic center. The Olympic village was built with private money. The Olympic park is now a public park with schools and sports classes. The stadiums are being used by local football teams. Unfortunately, only a negative image of the city is presented, which is far from the truth.

as a french person it is always a pleasure to see how france and particularly the OG are seen from the outside. Everyone is so pessimistic about the games in France, critisizing every decision made. But from an external point of view, it all makes much more sense. Thanks for you work !

Hey. I'm from rio and I can assure you that the Olympic legacy is not abandoned in the city. Some venues became schools, some are still in use and the one you showed on the video is where the music festival rock in rio takes place nowadays.

I hope that the river Seine is clean enough for them to use it in the games, however even if it's not clean enough the city will end up with a cleaner river. This would not have happened without the olympics.

Everyone complains about the olympics not making money but then every means to profit from it is a greedy cash grab?

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, just swam in the seine.

The Tokyo Olympics had it rough because of the absence of fans and the revenue that would have come with them. But all things considered, the Olympics went smoothly, with the facilities made for the games still in use.

Irony the day you post the video, river was clean enough so that Hidalgo (major of Paris) swimmed on it.

As a 2022 Paralympian in alpine skiing and someone who has always loved the Games as a whole I really appreciate videos like this highlighting the logistics and preparation of the games themselves. I believe the Olympics and Paralympics are an extremely important event for all of us to bring the world together, and even though they can have major costs and be an inconvenience to some, I hope these games in Paris are a major success that will help spur the Olympic spirit onward.

The Rio Olympics only happened in 2016, and unless you are writing from the future, the stadiums have not been abandoned for a decade, let alone "well over a decade"...

Where the hell did you find Tokyo generated nearly six billion in revenue? No way did they come close to that based off losing over $800 million in spectator ticket revenue due to the pandemic. Cite your sources bruh.

The opening ceremony was a huge disappointment. It just looked very nonchalant and awkward.

The French electricity grid is already 99% carbon free thanks to nuclear and hydro. Wind and solar are not a climate improvement in France. Actually solar CO2 emissions are 400% worse than nuclear according to UN IPPC figures. (48grams / kwh for solar and 12 grams for nuclear)

the more I hear about the paris olympics, the more I'm interested in the event. It's been long known that the event is an unprofitable expensive mess, but seeing this one being used to work on the issues of the city is amazing. But it also makes me wonder why this couldn't be done any time in the last half a century...

Madrid already proposed to use existing stadiums and submitted a more climate-friendly bid when climate-friendly wasn't still a thing and cities were fighting to build the largest / newest / most expensive stadium. The bid was famously and controversially rejected.

Just making things clear : the homeless of Paris were merely deported, and left to struggle even more in provincial towns, due to the lack of support networks.

Thank god Paris is in a developed country, and wont face the same problems as those olympics in developing countries.... You know... Like London and Tokyo... famously underdeveloped
