Lyrics:

We’ve played a fool so many times
We’ve been led bested and thrown to the lions
We’ve been to school for all of our crimes
So we deny

Stars when you shine you’re all we feel
Riding precisely in fractal surreal
Stars when you dream ends to a mean
Come on between

Down to the spring caught in a lie
Moses might plan things so he wouldn’t die
Come by the skewer starboard to par
I will in crime(?)

Die

Oh what a beautiful vision in time
With a meaningful range of expression and rhyme
Infinitesimal strangers on wings of a plane
Flying narwhals adventure in standing refrain

I’m not a man you see I just repeat for free
Tilly and Wall shot a gold Tally Hall
saved its Stromboli poetry "Have a Cigar"
Señor (((Freud))) you look good but your tars are your tars

Oh what a moving expansion of space
with a meaningful range of repression embrace

joe hawley really dropped the hardest song of all time in the same album as ‘your mother is a basketball’

I don't think I'll ever be able to put into words how much I ADORE Joe Hawley's lyricism

I believe the line "Tilly and Wall shot a gold Tally Hall" is talking about how they opened the show for a group named Tilly and the Wall on tour and that shot them into popularity

the first time I listened to this I thought it was called Aristotle's dental then a few weeks later I realized it was called Aristotle's Denial

You know it's gonna be good when a reverse version of it comes before the full song

2:47 always reminded me of the section in Dream Sweet in Sea Major that goes "you look quite divine tonight..."

Aristotle's Denial feels like the spiritual successor to The Mind Electric. It's had a similar amount of Demos too, lots of effort to get it to where it is. That's why it's one of my favorites.

This is the first time I'm listening to the non reversed version of this and holy shit this hits HARD

The way Hawley uses and articulates the English language in this song never fails to impress me. It's the type of song that makes you stop and think. Such care went into crafting these lyrics. "Oh what a moving expansion of space, with a meaningful range of repression in grace."
