My mum used to sing this to me when I was a child (I didn't understand what the song was about until I was a teen). She was from Great Britain & used to sing all sorts of, umm interesting songs to me when I was a child in the 1970s.

Washing up today and a memory of 40 years ago popped in my head, Mum said 'Drink cabbage water, you don't want to look like Spotty Maldoon!', only questioning it now!

My older sister (by 6 years) had a English pen pal in the mid 60's and he sent her this 45 which I promptly loved (along with "Lovely Lady Of The Roses") and which prepared me for Monty Python later on.

I don't usually find cruelty funny but this is an exception. Poor old Spotty - let's hope he found happiness eventually.

This song was banned in the later 1970's by the National radio in New Zealand for fear of offending the then Prime Minister Robert Muldoon. Since he was generally known as Piggy with all the negativity that word can muster it was perhaps a little too servile.

I just googled this as I commented on my mum's spotty dress and she said 'yes, more spots than spotty maldoon'. So here I am. I am very sarcastic and I do find the thing funny, but I sort of feel bad as well for all the people back in the day with acne having this chanted to them 🙈

Twice this very week I have been called Spotty Muldoon because I have a fungal rash all over the legs and arms. Thankfully my face will still sink a thousand ships lol ;)

So pleased there are no snowflakes or virtue signallers here, taking offence on behalf of spotty people.

Have to agree Joe, Dudley was multi talented and could have had a career in any of his fields but he chose to pursue all of them with his comedy with Peter taking precedence.

Although I loved their comedy I will remember Peter best as Richard III in the first episode of Black Adder.

I am a spotty Muldoon litetally. My mom's maiden name is Muldoon and I'm quite spotty with pimples myself...apparently i should dance and embrace my fate😂❤

Ernie the fastest milkman in the west sounds similar. I think Benny Hill used artistic licence from this...

The name Spotty Muldoon (I remembered it this morning) was something my Dad used to sing to my Mother in the 70's. I had no idea where it was from, But now I know. I must confess I don't find this funny at all, as my dad used it as a put down...

I wonder why he called him Muldoon? That is my cousin's name and its a good old gaelic name. like it anyway!

Having cystic acne isn’t funny in my opinion. It’s ruined my life for more than 30 years and turned me into a suicidal recluse. The fact that this is sung by a very clear skinned man makes me think of the WH AUden poem the first line of which is ‘About suffering they were never wrong, The Old Masters’.
