Such a great video. Going through all this with my five year old son now. I’ll circle back in a few years and watch again

My kid just turned 4 this past November and so I just signed him up for jiu jitsu last week. I used to train religiously until I got into a bad motorcycle accident. Thank you for this video. This is going to help me help him. He is the only kid so he hates to lose lol he doesn't know what to do yet when he gets mounted or if the other kids have hooks in him. They are older and bigger than he is but at least now, he is having fun. Don't expect so much, take a seat and let the coach do their job.

Tried to put my son in bjj at 4 he wasn’t ready took him back at 5 he loved it and 3 years going on 4.
He goes every other day 2 hours a day and Muay Thai boxing on the other days.
When they are into it and ready they’ll let you know. And I stay out of his training, it’s his journey to take not mine

Hi! So this is from a teenagers perspective, I watched this video to try to talk to my parents. I do not like jujitsu, (sorry for everyone that does!!) but I’m ok with working with girls, but I find it really weird to work with boys. That could just be my age, but I find it really uncomfortable and VERY awkward to work with the boys at my gym. My dad’s a black belt in jujitsu, runs his own business, and has me train and also wants me to get to blue belt until I stop. I have been trying to figure out how to talk to my parents about not working with boys, and only girls. I’m going to try to ask them for maybe some private lessons, and coming every night when there’s a girl there. I don’t really no what it is why I don’t like working with boys, but it just very awkward for me and I don’t know why. If anyone has any tips about this, please leave a reply! But being a teenager, forcing your kid to do jujitsu might not be the best thing to do. I am very aware that I need these skills and I really don’t think there important, but I really don’t like working with boys, and I would definitely be willing to try another form of self defense. Thanks for listening!!

Thank you for this video. That's my daughter who laughs and talks when she's on the ground.

Not coaching my son can be so hard 😂. Especially when their are 30 kids in the class and 2 coaches and they can’t catch the little things. Definitely something I work on myself and really attempt to let the coaches coach.

I got my daughter into her gi when she was 3 years old. She's 5, 7 today. The couple of rules I go by right now is, that is has to be fun for her right now. I can't or shan't force it onto her. Secondly I catch the ball when she comes to me and asks "daddy I want to practice" and we go "practice" atemi-waza, nage-waza or ne-waza (I do jujutsu and not bjj).
Though I do make some hidden practices when we are fooling around and playing and put in some katame-wazas (she is actually quite good at yubi-gatame, for her age) . But at the end of the day; it has to be fun for her.

My daughter started bjj at 4 years old but the instructor wasn't very committed to teaching children 😢. So we changed gym and a year on we left the second gym again for similar reasons. So now I'm training my baby girl with what I can find on line. I do muaythai as she is too but bjj is something I don't really know anything about. But at that young age I guess it maybe a good thing to learn together bjj. Thank you so much for all you hard work.

I got mine JJJ for one year 4-5, BJJ 5-6, and now 6+ > 6 months both BJJ and Shinkiokushin (with acrobatics in the dojo). He already applied to BJJ for anti-bullying. Now adding 🎻 for fine motor skills. He's delayed, but gradually catching up with he's piers 😅 I'd love him to learn some Judo, but it's hard to find time as Judo is bit more far away.

Bjj is good but so is traditional jujitsu japaneese. They compliment eachother. Did bjj just 2 weeks they closed due to covid. Traditional jujisu and nimpo bugei i did 10 years.
