Why Henry Cavendish was given credit for discovery and not boyle:





Henry Cavendish is credited with the discovery of hydrogen primarily because of his detailed and accurate study of the gas, which allowed him to identify it as a distinct substance. Although Robert Boyle had produced hydrogen gas in 1671 by reacting metals with acids, he did not recognize it as a separate element. Boyle's observations were more general, and he did not thoroughly investigate the properties of the gas.

In 1766, Cavendish carried out a series of experiments in which he systematically collected and studied the properties of the gas released when metals reacted with acids. He identified it as a distinct "inflammable air" and recognized its unique characteristics, such as its ability to burn and form water when combusted. Cavendish’s work laid the foundation for understanding hydrogen as an element, which is why he is often credited with its discovery, despite Boyle's earlier preparation of it.
