Peter Hook is an English musician, songwriter, and DJ who is best known as the bassist for the post-punk band Joy Division and later for the synth-pop band New Order. He was born on February 13, 1956, in Salford, England. Hook formed Joy Division with Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, and Stephen Morris in 1976, and the band released their first album, "Unknown Pleasures," in 1979. Following Curtis's death in 1980, the remaining members of Joy Division formed New Order, which became one of the most successful bands of the 1980s and 1990s. Hook left New Order in 2007 and has since been involved in a number of other musical projects, including his own band, Peter Hook and The Light. He is considered one of the most influential bassists in the history of rock music.
