Scarlett Johansson is an American actress, singer, and model. She was born on November 22, 1984 in New York City, and is the middle of three children. Johansson began her acting career as a child, appearing in several off-Broadway productions and later in small roles in films such as "North" (1994) and "Manny & Lo" (1996).
In 1998, Johansson landed her breakout role in the critically acclaimed film "The Horse Whisperer" directed by Robert Redford. This performance earned her a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female.
Johansson's career continued to grow in the 2000s with notable performances in films such as "Ghost World" (2001), "Lost in Translation" (2003), "Girl with a Pearl Earring" (2003) which earned her a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress, and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" (2008) which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
