The album, Wildflowers, released in 1994, is commonly vaunted as Tom Petty’s most personal, most heartfelt, and most revealing artistic statement of his career. Recorded over the course of two years and originally intended to be a two-disc album, it was perhaps the most creative period in his life.

The release of Wildflowers & All The Rest finally gathers together all 25 songs from the original recording sessions – the 15 songs from Wildflowers, plus the 10 songs that were left off the original release.

For those that don't know, Tom originally asked Steve Ferrone to keep a beat going on the hi-hat just to keep him in time on the piano but Ferrone in his genius, played the hits around Tom's rhythm on the piano. There was a looseness in Tom's playing that was endearing, so he followed him. He kept time around his feel for the song, so the song had a breath to it. Steve was rushed to catch a flight back to New York while they were listening to the playback and Tom asked, ‘If you were going to play drums what would you play on there?’ Steve asked him if he wanted to do a pass and he said, "Yeah.". Steve did one take and was like, "I've really got to go, I'll fly out next week and finish it.", and Tom was like, "No, it's great." Ferrone said the next thing he knew the album came out and there was his drum track.

Tom was a light in the dark. A wise friend to many. A comforting voice to anyone who needs it. He always knows the right words to say. Thank you Tom. I know you're watching this from Heaven and smiling.

I did not know Tom Petty played the piano. He played it beautifully.

I am 38 years old. Tom Petty is the first artist in my life that I was truely sad when he died. What a treasure.

One of my favorite songs by him, his lesser known songs are better than most artists best singles.

Not ashamed to say Tom Petty's music can actually move me to tears, hearing his emotion and feeling in his songs is amazing.

Thanks to Adria and the entire extended Petty family and bandmates for completing Tom’s masterwork. Such a wonderful gift to his Superfans!

Cried when I first heard it back in '94. Cry when I hear it now, except it has more impact today.

I can’t even listen to the whole song. I cry too much. I felt like he was my friend.

Tom Petty wrote tons of hits and plenty of fantastic songs such as this one, and yet he's highly underrated.

This is when people wrote their own music and it had feeling and meaning, songs like this are truly works of art in every sense.

I may not believe in it, but if it exists, I hope you're in a great place Tom. One of the only people whose death has made me cry.

Almost 30 years later and I'm nearly as lost now as I was as the child singing this album. Only difference is I've lived the life.
I hope I Rise & Shine soon...tired of waiting ;)
