Rejuvenation is one of the most over used terms in pavement preservation. It seems everything sprayed on the pavement somehow "rejuvenates" the asphalt. In actuality there is only one way to restore asphalt binder and that is to replace the maltene fractions lost to oxidation. The use of maltenes to restore aging asphalt binder has been settled science for over 50 years. Using a maltene based rejuvenator will reduce the viscosity of the binder thereby restoring the flexibility back to the asphalt pavement. This "top of the curve" preservation strategy can extend the life of asphalt pavement by 5 years for each treatment. Turning back the hands of time results in less raveling, cracking and water intrusion. Protecting the asphalt roadway is the most cost effective activity you can undertake over the life of the pavement.

Rejuvenation is not merely focused on softening the binder however. If that was our only goal agencies could use powerful, solvent based softening agents to reduce the viscosity. Solvents however destroy the bond between the asphalt binder and the aggregate and therefore shorten the life span of any asphalt roadway. In this video, viewers will see the proper application of a maltene based rejuvenator, Reclamite® to extend the life of this residential road while the pavement is in good condition.
