How to use PhotoPills to plan your Milky Way Photography | Astrophotography

My tips and tricks for how to easily use the PhotoPills app to plan your Milky Way photography.

While PhotoPills is an awesome app, it definitely has a steep learning curve when you first open it up. But by the end of this video you will know how to identify when the Milky Way is visible, whether or not the moon will be in your way and where to set-up your tripod to get the core of the Milky Way exactly where you want in your frame around your foreground subject.

PhotoPills is available for iOS and Android. Look for future videos to hear about other apps I recommend for Astrophotography.

Hey Aaron, I just got the app on my cell phone. When I'm in the planner tab, I'm not getting the information on the right (such as how the milky way will be oriented) that you are showing on your video. Is there a way for me to show that info on my android or is this something I would have to use my i-pad to see. Thanks! Great video!

Can anybody help me with this? What map type was used in the planner in this video? I’m not seeing the circular grey lines on my device in the planner and I’m not seeing the dotted line representing the Milky Way core either.
