Jammu Kashmir Elections: Why Did BJP Withdraw Its Initial List Of Candidates And Later Trim It Down

The BJP has named 16 candidates for the first phase of the J&K elections, following the release of an initial list of 44 candidates that was quickly revised. The party withdrew names for the second and third phases amid speculations of internal dissent. Reports suggest that some party members were unhappy with the original list, leading to protests over the selection of 'parachute candidates' instead of long-serving members. The initial list featured nearly a dozen leaders who joined the BJP within the last five years. Notably, 10 former MLAs, including ex-Deputy CM Nirmal Singh and former J&K BJP chief Sat Paul Sharma, were dropped.
