The Anvil Hawk was the other lower-entry ship, but that's a newer design though. imho, the Gladiator needs S4 guns and S4 missiles under the wings. The ordinance bay needs modules to drop S3 bombs or carry 2 SCU inside (prison pods also).

I own and love her, but shes so limiyed .The story behind her is relatable and imspiring, sadly in game shes next to useless compared to newer ships. Really hope she gets some love, but i suspect the turtle will win this one {which also needs skins}

You're missing the bigger pattern: CIG have put four unpopular categories (ground vehicles, underdogs, racers, and alien) up against four big ones (freighters, pathfinders, industrial, and fighters).

It's brilliant not manipulative, I think, as it will rally strong sympathy campaigns to get ships from those secondary categories into the final four. And that's exactly what our community likes to do, so I'd say it's both deliberate and a clever way to maximize contest drama and make it a real contest. Thumbs up.

I used to fly this purchased in game a lot. I loved it but I hate those tentacle maneuvering thrusters. If they changed them to be like the mk ii hornet, I’d love it again.

The Gladiator is the middle ground between the Eclipse and Firebird.

As a major advantage it can hang around after its missiles/torps are expended unlike moat other missile boats.

Connies as an example arent really threatened by a S9 torp due to the 5km min launch distance and speed.

I always appreciate a in depth look at a ship that includes both the lore and its history. I am honestly a Terrapin fan. Hopefully the Terrapin can defeat the 600i. Hopefully the community can get one of the under through to the top 4. Hopefully the Gladiator will come into it's own when they truly start to do ship balance and it will get it's place in the stars. I think that CIGs marketing has way to much influence on the direction of the project.

I would purchase one hands down if they would upgrade it to handle cargo & bombs. I love the aesthetic of the ship, just wish it was versatile.

I easily prefer the gladiator to the Terrapin. I love the lines of the Terrapin, but having it be a single-person ship was a boner. It needs a rethink. I keep hoping to see another ship with the Terrapin's shape language as a tough little smuggler/blockade runner though.

One thing no one brings up, is they probably need to re-scale the size of bombs and torpedos, as if you were to try to put the current A1 size 5's in the gladiator, they are way too big. So either the A1 is dropping something larger than size 5 or the galdiator needs to be larger.

I think if I could change or update the Gladiator, I would probably add the modular pod, and give the co pilots seat some additional functionality. I would love to see a true ground attack bomber with radar jamming, ground attack torps and missiles designed to take out ground targets like Ballista and Centuarian batteries In short a cross between a A10 warthog and a A6 intruder [ see William Defoe film Flight of the intruder for context].
At the moment i dont think the Ballista is a effective area denial system that it should be so they should buff that sytem and give it a effective specialist counter by redeveloping the Gladiator.

I flew this a bit before master modes, i think that because its trying to do a few things, it doesnt really excel for me. Id like to try it again with master modes to see how it does.

I suspect that the gladiator needs some stealth. The firebird has shown that you can use that missle function if you have some time to set up your shot. That said, the ftorebird needs 24 missiles because the hit rate is rough right now. When the gladiators thing is those size 5 missiles, they need to hit consistently or have more to cope with the hit rate we have now

I picked up a Gladiator during ILW so I can have the buy back token for when this ship does get its gold pass. I like the lore behind this ship and with everything that it is stated to be able to do in lore, should be a fantastic personal runabout. I'm sad it got put up against the Terrapin in the showdown because I am a long standing member of the Terp Gang but the Gladiator deserves more. I hope in the near future, with modularity coming online and Montreal getting their people up to speed, that it is reworked and given the ability to do all the things that it is celebrated for in lore.
