The Hottest Planet Ever Found

The hottest planet we have ever discovered is Kelt-9b, located about 670 light-years away. It's 2.8 times more massive than Jupiter, and its surface temperature is about 4300° C or 7800° F, hotter than most stars in the universe. Its atmosphere contains iron vapor, which can be detected through spectroscopy. This means that the planet's atmosphere is so hot that iron is not just melted but actually turned into gas. Kelt 9b lies quite close to its host star, and its orbital period lasts just 1.5 days. Because of tidal locking, one side faces the star while the other is always in darkness. The planet's atmosphere is constantly bombarded with intense ultraviolet radiation, causing it to shed a tail of evaporated planetary material like a comet. Discoveries like Kelt 9b remind us of the incredible diversity of worlds beyond our solar system.

This is incredible. I love these videos, especially the shorts! Thank you for a window into so many worlds beyond ours. We are so small in comparison.

Sun: I'm a 5000 C star
Kelt: I'm 700 C lower than you but I'm still a planet.

What if habitable planets aren't habitable, but every planet is. The non habitable ones are harder levels that you haven't yet unlocked.

The world in 5046: ah, a comfortable planet to start colonizing and eventually terraforming! 😀

When he said "hotter than most stars", it took me a second to understand what he was saying😂

Sounds like it's a capture rather than beginning life in that system

Kelp 9 b is an old mini star, due to tiny inner core it poses, it too close to main star it got captured with.

Would it be possible for Kelp-9B to turn into a star?

Would be so amazing and mind blowing to get to explore the universe and beyond, in person

It's surface is hotter than most stars at 4400 degrees Celsius. That is absolutely mind blowing I wonder if it has enough mass to start nuclear fusion itself.
